Pacific Day 11 – Caught a fish (at last)!

Yey – finally caught a fish on this trip – was starting to think there was nothing out there.. It’s a decent size Wahoo. They look (and smell) like a very large barracuda.  I filleted it down and we were hoping to have sashimi / ceviche, but to be honest it did not taste that nice – instead it’s going to go onto the BBQ and also into a fish curry.

Navigation-wise, we are properly into the 2nd half of the trip. We have decided to take the earlier option for dropping down to the Marquises. Last night we started heading back towards the equator and we probably have about 1 to 1.5 days left in the current, so trying to make the most of it. We’ve had a terrific 16 hours of sailing on a beam reach averaging 9 – 10 knots.  The skies are very clear at night and we have a full moon at the moment – it’s so bright it’s like sailing at dusk / dawn.  (this was 3:30am!)

Still more stupid fish ending their lives on the boat… yesterday wasn’t a blank either, I found a fish had slid down behind one of the cushions and was very crispy.
