Today we managed to get out for our first sail with Nautilus as our new home. Thing were a bit more complicated than original planned as we had a problem with the tender. On Saturday I was working on servicing the controls when one of the cables snapped – probably a mix of fatigue based on a poor design, not helped by some likely user error on my part. Nothing was open over the weekend, so we had to wait until Monday until we could get the parts.
A few hours later and it’s all sorted. I would have to say this, but everything is running more smoothly now. I even managed to fix the broken back to the seat.
And then it was out to sea
And where did we go? well we basically sailed in circles. It was blowing 13 knots, so we sailed up and down at different points of sail to see how the boat behaved and just be on the water enjoying ourselves. It also gave us the chance to run the water maker and top-up our tanks. Most people don’t drink the water in Malta (it’s safe, it just doesn’t taste very nice), hence the reason we want to produce our own.

Hi Guys,
Really excited for you. We are friends with one of you ex neighbours, Ben, who told us about your adventure and shared the website.
We are hoping to do something similar in a few years once the children are old enough to abandon so it is great to see somebody that has already started.
Will be following your adventures with interest.
Dylan
So presumably in one of your bags came a bunch of tools for the chain meter fix? 😀
Very exciting!
When you guys to get going, let me know if you pass Tarifa. Will Rawley, who may have cycled with us in the past now lives there and also has a sailboat. Let me know and I can put you in touch
