Pacific Day 13 – Time for a swim

So, what did you do today?.......

Well I jumped off the boat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean in my snorkling gear to try to clear a blocked poop tank by pushing a flexible rod up through a thru-hull!…. pretty normal isn’t it?  🙂

Yesterday the wind dropped down to hardly anything in the afternoon, so we took the opportunity to go for a swim. Yes, we had lines in the water with a buoy, no sails up and only one person in at a time.

As mentioned, one of our holding tanks in backing up and the last thing I want to do at sea is to try clearing it out. However, we came up with the idea of seeing if we could unblock it from the outside…. I managed to clear it (at least partially by diving under the boat with a rod and poking around) – and yes it was pretty gross. Oh, the fun things you never expected you’d be doing in your future.

Whilst we were down there we both had a good look around the hull to check everything was ok and it’s pretty mental just how much marine life there is growing on the boat (the hull was spotless when we left!).

There were also loads of Jellyfish too and the slightly stingy kind..  Tates spotted a HUGE one and dived down to take a picture…

After the swim, the wind has been progressively building and we’re now up to 25 knts on the beam with one reef in and the sea conditions are “lively”… we’re still pointing pretty much directly at the Marquesas and the computer say 1070 miles to go.

I’m also chuffed with myself for tracking down a really annoying squeak / creaking noise that would rattle through the cabin… it was where the mast “steps” onto the mast plate and the two metal surfaces were rubbing just enough make a horrible noise – a quick squirt of sillicon spray and the world is a quieter place.  Whilst I was up there with the torch a flying fish came over the side and hit me!…  he got thrown back.
