Pacific Day 9 – Slow and steady….

Steady progress over the last day… After the previous record breading 24 hours, we’re down to something more sedate with only 1.5 knots of current and 8-10knots of wind. Certainly not complaining as we had a beautiful sunrise and there isn’t a cloud in the sky.

I had a quick look on Marine Traffic last night to see if there was much around us…  Not huge amounts, but we are being chased by a French and Swiss Trimaran.

Otherwise it’s all pretty quiet and we’re into our 2-up routine. We mix it up sometimes, but generally work around the fact that i’m not very good a sleeping during the day… Our current routine is that I went to bed last night about 9pm and slept through to 4am (Tates was naughty and gave me an extra hour). Tates heads to bed and will probably surface around 12:00 and then we have  (breakfast/lunch).  This means we have the afternoon together, dinner and repeat.

As a watch pattern it works pretty well but it does mean you have to sail pretty conservatively as I don’t want to be waking Tates up for sail changes unless we need to be reefing down.  Right now we’re sailing with the white sails, but will switch to the spinnaker or parasailor when she’s up so we can sail a bit deeper into the wind.

Otherwise all pretty quiet – I did an check of the engines and steering systems and they all seem happy. The bypass I rigged for the broken argofet is working properly and we’re getting full power from the alternator. The repaired waterpump is half the volume it was before! Rigging looks good and the new connector we installed in Galapagos is rock-solid.  Fishing lines are out, but we haven’t had a nibble.
